Preserved flowers Sydney: dried or preserved?
The two terms get used interchangeably, but they're a little different.
Dried flowers have had their moisture removed. They're papery and textural, with softer, more muted colour than fresh flowers.
Preserved flowers have been treated so they keep a softer, more flexible feel, closer to a fresh stem.
Most of our designs use a mix of both, along with dried foliage and grasses, which gives them their layered, textural look.
Neither needs water. That's the main reason people choose them. They suit:
- a reception desk or office where no one's in charge of the vase
- someone who travels a lot, or lives somewhere with limited bench space
- a keepsake gift, like our pet memorial tribute
- anyone who loves flowers but not the upkeep
If you'd prefer fresh flowers instead, our order flowers collection has our full range of seasonal bouquets, also made to order at the Northbridge studio. For a keepsake after a loss, see our sympathy and funeral flowers.
Caring for dried and preserved flowers
Dried and preserved flowers are low-maintenance, but they're not no-maintenance. A few simple habits keep them looking their best.
No water, ever. Don't put them in a vase with water, and keep them away from splashes from the sink or kettle.
Out of direct sun. Strong sunlight fades colour, so choose a spot away from a sunny window.
Away from humidity. Bathrooms and steamy kitchens aren't ideal. Damp air can make dried stems droop or lose their shape.
Handle gently. Dried flowers are more delicate than fresh ones. Pick them up by the wrapping or the base, not the heads.
Dusting. A hairdryer on the coolest, lowest setting, held well back, will lift off dust. A soft, clean paintbrush works too.
Moving them. If you're rearranging, lift the whole arrangement rather than pulling individual stems.
Choosing a spot. A bookshelf, side table, mantel or desk away from the window all work well. Somewhere dry and settled, where they won't get knocked, is ideal.
That's it. No trimming, no fresh water, no vase to wash.

Preserved & Dried Flowers FAQ
Do dried flowers need water?
No. Dried and preserved flowers don't need any water. In fact, keep them away from water and humidity, and out of direct sun.
What's the difference between dried and preserved flowers?
Dried flowers have had their moisture removed, so they're papery and textural. Preserved flowers are treated so they keep a softer, more flexible feel. Most of our designs mix both.
Can I order mini dried posies for an event or business?
Yes. Our Mini Dried Posies start from $7 and can be customised for corporate and business orders. Send us an enquiry with the quantity, colours and date you need them.
